Horray! This week I feel like a genius because I overcame a difficult task. I set up my new blog, and did a little php programming(well sort of, but more like taking a tutorial and pausing it, and trying, and then replaying that same tutorial, and trying again).

Of course, it would have taken someone who new what they were doing probably 10 minutes. It only took me 7 hours! WOW, like to do three things. But all I can say is that I didn't give up, and now I can post BIG pictures at this link.....http://boshimages.com/blog

I will need to keep this blog and just ramble on about CJ every once and a while. It seems that this is the only journaling I have done about him. So now, where is the tutorial on downloading two years of blog posting and putting it in a scrapbook????

CJ's new favorite words are "see, I toldga!" and it is driving me crazy! Is this normal for a three-year old?? It has to stop, so I told him that it was a bad thing to say. Hope I am not confusing him too much. Do you know how many times you have to say "I told you" to a three-year old. I told you to not to flush that down the toilet, I told you to go to the bathroom before we left...etc. Now I need a nicer way to say that to him.

And when I tell a story on this blog, I usually get two to three reassuring emails letting me know that that is exactly the same story of their child. So any new "I told you" translations are welcome.

So hard to chose just one image from everyone's session. Here are the babies of the day, just how I like them, slow crawlers to pre crawlers. Such a nice break from chasing toddlers around. And look at these sweet smiles! But first, this girl totally belongs in a J Crew ad.

And now for a very late night of Gymnastics! Hurray! Every four years, my three sisters and I would huddle on a couch, waiting through commercials to get to that amazing event. Women's all-around. I get nostalgic just thinking about it. And now, here we are all with kids, almost forbidden to talk on the phone with each other about it in fear that one of us had to Tivo the event. Because you know if you know the results ahead of time, it is just not as much fun....

The Perfect Family Portrait!

My good friend and neighbor Firuzeh has been looking for the one good family portrait to hang above her mantle since the day these twins were born. On this photo shoot, we created new secret laughing techniques that will later on be sold on ebay.

But really, I love this one Firuzeh. Why? Because it says so much. After all, we were trying to get two two-year-olds to sit and smile. They never do that on a daily basis, so why pretend? right?

But becuase we worked so hard for it, here is my favorite traditional shot of the day!

Kicked out of swim school

So sad, my cj was kicked out of swim school.

Rewind. About two weeks ago in the pool, he was so interested in swimming on his own that he began to duck his head under the water and hold his breath. That same day, he would put his head under and start "running" furiously under the water with his arms and legs attemting to go forward. I thought this was pretty funny looking, but eventually, he learned to move forward in his own way. About two weeks after the self discovery, he began to swim under water about three yards.

Today. Perfect time to put a child in swim school right? Well, let me put it this way. Teacher gets in pool, CJ gets out, runs to the other pool, and jumps in the deep end. She goes in, gets him and then he runs to the other pool and jumps in. At this point, I am ducking under towels to avoid eye contact of the head swim instructor, at the same time trying to act like this child needs some serious parent intervention- whoever those parents may be. Where are those kids parents?

And then at the end of the class they tell me it may not be right for him. As a teacher, I translate that as, "get your kid under control or you can't come back!" (sigh)

What a fun day for pictures. Tons of smiles, family, color. Best of all, I have been planning a gradkids shoot for over six months. I knew we would be together, and all the babies would be ready for a group shot. Thanks to the icecream cones, they actually sat long enough for me to keep my finger on the trigger, and take about 50 pictures. One of which turned out okay. Hope your fourth was fun!

So I go to Georgia. Gone for a few days. Missing CJ sooooo much was the hardest part. When my husband picks me up (a day late) from the (wrong) airport (due to a cancelled flight), we go next to get CJ at school.

Rod has me duck behind the seat, and goes in to get CJ. I can hear them walking to the car. Rod tells CJ, "I have a surprise for you CJ.... It's in the car"

CJ opens the door.....

He sees me.....

and says, "Where is my surprise dadda?"

wow, it is getting harder and harder to impress him.

It is amazing how many things can go completely missing when you have a three year old.

Ever since CJ was a baby, I have played the same lullaby cd to him as he fell asleep. I can remember those 2am feedings like they were yesterday when the sweet sound of the lady singing lullabys blares out of the stereo. In fact, although I dreamt of the day my son would ask me to sing him to sleep, he would rather have "the lady" sing the songs than have his own mother lull him to sleep. He would say, "shhhh mamma, the lady is singing!" (ouch)

Now this cd is missing, and I have no idea who she was. I think I picked it up at potterybarn, or target. I dunno. But it is sad because one of the reasons I am a photographer is because my memory is so terrible. I need help recalling those wonderful moments.

It will probably show up when I smell some funky smell coming from the stove, when the dogs get sick, or when our toilet clogs. That is usually how I find things around here.

And for Lisa, so you won't forget how sweet your Kayla was when she was turning one, here are a few of my favorite pictures.

This is such a fun age. Cj and I actually have inside jokes now. Like the ones that only he and I get, and we laugh, and laugh, and laugh. Tonight, as I was putting him down to bed, it went something like this:

Mamma: Good night CJ, I love you.
CJ: Remember last morning (referring to anything in the past tense)?
Mamma: What happened last morning?
CJ: I went this way, and you went that way, that was soo funny.
Mamma: (trying hard to rack my brain and crack three-year-old code) Oh, yeah!
CJ: That was funny. (pause) Mamma, I like you.

Yeah! He likes me. Is that a step above love in his book?

Funny how fast time goes by! I used to teach dance at a private school while in college. One of the fourth graders I taught, had a younger sister who is graduating from High School this June. When I drove up to meet her, I half expected a little girl to be dropped off by her parents, and this amazingly poised girl dirves up herself!
But she was tons of fun, and so together with her plans. I had a lot of fun hanging out with her.

Everytime Brady's older sister and CJ play, I kid her and say, "so Kaylee, you coming home with me right?" And then the sweet smile wipes off her face and she really gets scared, like I am serious. I mean, look how much fun we have together. This was when Brady was eating, and Kaylee was "eating" the camera!But I would take her home she is sooo good and sweet, and I love her. And now I have one more of her to love.

i cannot keep my son from eating dog food. And it kills me, because it takes all my energy to see that he doesn't get hit by a car running away from me, or is friendly but cautious of strangers, that he eats healthy food all day like carrots and apples, and then the area I am failing hugely at is the snacking on our labs meals.

Successes; 1. Locking the door in which we store the food with dead bolt.
2. Explaining in great detail that it will make him sick.
3. Giving him the responsibility in feeding the dogs.

Failures: 1. Giving him the responsibility in feeding the dogs.

He usually asks me, "mamma, just one, one, just one." But tonight, after dropping the bowl of dog food on his way to give it to our lab, he gracefully snatched a handful and started munching away furiously so that I couldn't stop him. What could he possibly like about it? I mean he doesn't even eat chicken! Even after brushing his teeth, he still smelled like my dogs.

Well these two boys were a blast, and I am sure their mamma has some stories to tell about them at three. I will just say now that I was thrilled that they were looking for something other than a smile and perfection. She said to me, "Noel, I am looking for something that is just them, who they are right now." And that "them" was hillarious. We climbed trees, went on the swing, ate oranges, wrestled, jumped, raced, played leap frog, and had a BLAST! Oh, and if you are looking for framing, Kerri is over at Framer's Workshop in Lake Forest, and they do a BEAUTIFUL!! job. I have used them many times.

A photographer once put it in words how I felt. "taking photos is my love language" deep , I know. Couln't possibly have come up with that one on my own.
But honestly, I so loved taking pictures for my friend Stephanie and her very own J, aka Jason.

Steph took my classroom over when I was pregnant with CJ. She was AWESOME! Luckily, she got a job teaching on the same team as me. She never even had that first year teaching catastrophe stories that I so remember. She was born for this job. She is the glue of our second team, she is so in love with her kids, and truly wants the best for them. And you should see her post-it collection!

And then she goes and gets engaged!! So excited for the two of them. Santa Monica was a blast! Thanks for hanging out with me.

Trading Places

So we are driving to the beach, and i am as nervous as can be. I am not sure if we are wearing the perfect outfits, or if my chin blemish will be too noticable, or if CJ will actually behave, and I know we are soooooo late, and I really want these pictures, but don't actually know if it really worth all this.

But it is.

Because now I have a few photos to have in my house proving that Cj is not the product of a single father home. Some pictures that will remind me the special time that this is in our family.

So yup, in a family of three sweet girl cousins and one RAMBUNCTIOUS boy, "ready, set, go", pretty much looks like this.

And what is an egg hunt with out documentation from both angles.

Sonia is so close to doing it all on her own.

And Rainn slept through the whole thing. Mostly in his mama's pouch.

But the best part of my easter was the 90 degree weather, and all the big kids stipping down for some water fun. Time with family is such a blessing to me. I am thankful for all my nieces and one little nephew!

An answer to prayer

One of the best things about teaching is the collaboration you have with colleages. You bounce ideas off of them, you get ideas on how to get your kids to behave better, and you laugh about the things at your job that only YOU could find funny as a teacher.

Entering into a new profession, I felt like I was on an island working on my own. Sure, I could make a long distance phone call to my parents begging for photoshop help, but it is not the same as a real live friend in the flesh who can help you out. So I prayed that one would come my way......

Along came Michelle Nicoloff, fellow photog. Michelle can laugh at my mistakes, can tell me hers, but more importantly, we share the ideas, and joys we have in this job. I am so truly blessed to have her in my life. It was also an honor to be able to photograph your four beautifuls. What craziness, what fun!

My life is a TV show

Sometimes I feel like my life is syndicated programming. Like when I am in the grocery store, and CJ just won't listen to me, as if he has suddenly lost all hearing in his ears. And as he runs away from me with the glass jar of spaghetti sauce, I at least know that when I get home to review the tape, some lady with a strong British accent will give me some pointers and advice on better disciplining him. Or when I sit at my cluttered desk, instead of picking up everything around the office, I hope someone will waltz in and tell me that under fifty bucks, they will transform this space into a fabulously hip organized room fit for the pages of Martha Stewart Living. But as the family went shopping this afternoon, and I left my husband and CJ to return some things I came back to see CJ riding the carousel with his dada up there on a horse next to him. He was saying something to CJ that was making him crack up, and then my life was a sweet hour long show, where the biggest problem is that someone didn't feed the dog, and the happy family ate dinner together every night. And it made me happy to think we would have such great commercials at our breaks, like Hallmark, or Master card. They both saw me, and as they turned the corner, I heard my husband say to CJ, "wanna trick mama?" When they came into view, CJ had his daddy's sun glasses and sweatshirt draped on his head, and my husband had CJ's tiny little sweatshirt plopped on his. Neither were laughing. I was laughing hysterically. And I thought, I can only hope there are lots of reruns!

My baby sister...
is having a baby!
This will be CJ's third cousin in four months! I wish I could have shot all three sisters pregnant at the same time, but this skinny little girl didn't even look pregnant three months ago.

Who can be skinny and fat? such a conundrum. One that answers "not me" in my book. I gained over 80 ponds with my boy. Somehow I thought I would give birth to a 50 pound child. Maybe the Carl's Jr. Chili Cheese fries had something to do with it! (and they are back by the way!)

She is another radiant beauty in the family of fertile princesses!

Dream workshop

Last weekend was a total blast! It was my first photography workshop down in San Diego, and I learned so many things I can't begin to list them all. My favorite photographer ever, Barb Uil, from Australia was there for Q & A, as well as hands on instruction. In my dreams, I walked up to her and shook her hand and said thank you for being such a great inspiration to me. What I really said was, and I quote, "hguit, owkn, umm, andl oiwen like yourws work." She thought it was my american accent I am sure.
Anyway, everyone there was so supportive, encouraging, and informative. I learned a Ton of new ideas and techniques! Here are a few images from the workshop.

And could you even imaging this many camera's facing you. So glad I wasn't this guinea pig.

Snowy wonderland (much better title)

Last week we made an 8 hour trek, uphill by the way, to a small town called Brian Head, Utah. It was a B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L place. Living in such a gorgeous area such as so cal, I forget the majesty in other types of scenery. Big Bear is our local mountain winter, and it has nothing on this place. When it snowed here, it was a winter wonderland!

They even shut down roads because of the snow.
But we made the best of 280 inches of snow on the mountains.
Those lucky people who get these views every winter. Snow was so deep, you walk, and sink as deep as your waist. And who knew that snow really did sparkle? I thought that was a Christmas marketing tool!

And despite one day of freezing weather and snow, CJ was such a trooper. Everyday he was out for two hours learning to ski. "No Pizza, french fries." Whatever that means in his head, he got it!

The story....(part two)

One thing I am trying to include more is my attention to detail. Whenever I see pictures of the little things, it makes the day flood back to me piece by piece. This picture below reminds me of the sweetness shared betweent these two siblings. It is so fun to watch siblings love on each other. They were about a year apart, and acted as if they were twins. SOOOOOO adorably loving in every way.

It was nice to hang out with you again Stacy. I miss our lunch get aways at school!

It has been three years in the blink of an eye. My little baby is not so little, and now a boy. When he was a baby I told myself, "self, don't forget this moment!" But I did. Much of it anyway. And now he is three, and there is so much more to tell. Hopefully this will remind me of these days.

CJ my sweet three-year-old, you were born with a happiness inside of you. You wake up early and ready for the day with a smile on your face. The world is yours for the taking, and you do that each and everyday! Everywhere your feet take you, they take you in style. I can't remember the last time you walked anywhere. You hop, jump, and run EVERYWHERE! There is no room that can contain you. Your ingenuity allows you to open all doors, locks, climb over obstacles and explore. It is impossible for you to walk by a stranger without saying "Hi, what's your name?" Even in your jogger as I am passing someone by. You make friends with the bagger at the grocery store, and every child that nears your height. "Is that my friend?" you turn to me and say, as a child walks by you. You love to make messes, but even more you love to clean them up. You hate sleep, as you feel as if you are missing out on the world spinning around without you. Your imagination can turn the bath into an ocean and the couch into a mountain in under 10 seconds. But you rarely leave that world as quickly. Your are loving, and generous with your kisses and hugs.

Hold on to that happiness, even in the hardest times of your life. Keep that sylish step as you go through life, and never walk anywhere that you can skip to. Let your creativity allow you to explore the world. Continue to see the stranger as a potential friend, and be kind to everyone you see. It is your gift. As you go through life, learn from your messes, and enjoy the lessons learned as you clean them up. Use that childlike imagination to dream big, and hold onto those dreams. Continue to love others as you do, for in that you will find true happiness. I love you CJ!!! Happy Birthday.

How time flies?

When you have a child of your own, you start to realize how fast time goes by. One year meant nothing to you, and then suddenly, one year means learning to sleep, eat, walk, talk, play, and suddenly your life will never move at the same speed again.

All this is magnified in the light of this job. One year goes by, and it is amazing how much older children change. Here are two sweeties last year......

And now this year. They look so grown up. They acted so grown up!

Thanks for letting me be a part of your families, watching them grow.

2007 has been such an amazing year for Bosh Images. It was the year of its birth, and the growth was beyond my wildest dreams. The success was due in part to so many friends and family members, I thought I would give a shout out to all the people who made this year possible.

First to thank Deena, Jaqui, and Julie who practically begged me to take this seriously on many occasions. You always believed in me even when I didn't. Thanks you guys.Brandee, Shuree, and Kim who were my unofficial marketing team. 95% of my customers know at least one of those names.To my family, especially my brother and dad who I have to call at the most random times to ask a technical question. But to all of them who pitched in to get me my real piece of camera equipment, and let me bother them with my camera in their faces every time we were together.
To the customers that allowed me to capture their children, or events. The kind words, and encoragement was the most rewarding aspect of this job.

And lastly, to my husband and boy. You supported me in EVERY way possible, emotionally, physically, and logistically.

You just can plan these days

Because you really can't plan days like today.
This morning as I was attempting to wrap some gifts with my two year old. Just after he wrapped himself up in a whole roll of target wrapping paper, he discovered a so-called Christmas gift, Diego underwear. He was so excited to wear it, so viola, we are now potty training. Housebound, on our fifth pair.

So my mom calls, and I think, answer it? why not? You are just sitting here watching Blues Clues, he will be fine. No more than thirty seconds later, he is gone. I panic. Images of messes run through my head. I have been trying to stay free of carpet, and anything fabric. Where could he be? Frantically I search the entire downstairs, and I suddenly hear a toilet flush. Yes! He was actually ON THE POTTY!! Yipeee. There is hope for us yet today.

So with him here beside me on the ground I will blog a bit more. These pictures were taken in downtown Pasadena. How crazy beautiful are these gals? They were so funny together. You know, if you have a sister, about that love hate thing that goes on 24/7. It was fun to reminisce.
But this picture, my favorite, was taken in an ice cream shop I loved the light in here!

Christmas through new eyes

This has been such a fun holiday season. Lights, santa, music, and family traditions all through the eyes of my son have made it so much fun. Tonight we bundled up and I chased CJ on his bike as we rode around looking at all the houses decorated with lights. No pictures to post of that event, as I was basically trying to keep up, and keep him alive from passing cars. Boy he got fast on that thing. But I do have some pictures to post from a couple months back, when I had no time TO post. This family had two children that so obviously loved each other. It was great to see such a connection at such a young age. Thanks Stephanie for letting me be a part of that!

Way back when I used my Nikon F something or other film camera, that I loved. (The one that went to europe twice, and sustained its shape after umpteen falls.) But I finally gave up and went digital. That whole time, I followed this little girl around with my camera, as much as her mom would let me. She was the very first baby I fell in love with. She was THE SWEETEST little girl, and still is. So smart. Boy do I have some funny stories from her. (another time)

So she grew up, and now has two siblings younger than her. Her mom is one of my very best friends, and I am lucky to be a part of their lives. Here is a recent session with them.

Warning. This post may come accross as bit condescending, know-it-all, and a just plain old stuffy. I just have learned a valuable piece of information, that makes me a wiser mom, thanks to CJ. The information is something I know many of you have wanted to know for quite sometime, but may have been afraid to ask yourself.

The answer to the question, "What happens when you empty the entire bottle of Johnsons and Johnsons baby shampoo into the bath, WITH THE BUBBLE JETS ON?"

This question was answered as I was sitting no more that two feet from the boy while trying to catch up on my book club book reading the One Thousand White Women, which despite the seemily racist title, was quite good.

I have NEVER been the mom to go and get my camera amidst the disaster, but seeing how I have helped design over 30 Christmas cards this year, but not my own, I thought "Hey Noel, maybe this could be a snow shot for the card....." So I grabbed my camera, and caught this image.

Things are calming down

It is so nice to have some breathing room for a change. Things are calming down as the season nears, and I find that if this small business does become a career, that is actually good timing. Now with roughly twenty-five days left to get my life ready for the holidays, I feel I can focus on my family. Everyone was so smart in planning October and November sessions to get their cards out, and prints for presents made. Thank you to everyone who did that.

And to not blog without a photo.....I couldn't resist these cheeks! Every photo of this cutie pie was adorable. She was a great subject. Thanks Lucy!

Not joking on this title. He could jump, climb, kick, throw, play golf, he had all the talent. So you think with all this going for him, ther is no way he could have an amazing personality too! Look at this smile....
He won my heart right away. He cracked me up! No wonder he was so special, his parents were so loving and kind. They had such a great connection. I love this picture of super kid tucked in his parents arms. So sweet.

So this entire family has taken me by my heart. They are like CJ's other family. He thinks he is their third child. To say he loves this family, is a huge understatement. Hunter is like the very first friend he has ever had. Kristena has been such a blessing in our lives these past two years, I have been so thankful to have her take care of CJ when she could. But now, she goes on to bigger and better things for her and her family. I am so proud of all the descisions she has made, but we miss her dearly! Not that we never see her!
So that is what made this photo shoot such a delight!!
And you know I love you too Aubrey!

Beach Mini sessions

were tons of fun. The best part is meeting all the new families. This beach session was an entire block of children that hang out together. One of the neighbors organized it, and I was like an observer of a really fun outing. The kids were great, and I may just have to move down on this street.

What do you do for that fall look in a state of evergreens and unclimbable trees? You recreate that east coast season, you drive into the wilderness, buy some colorful leaves, and bundle your children up. Believe it or not, all that was planned, and then we show up, and it is freezing for California weather, and to top it all off, it was raining, and that made those leaves look red and orange. yeah, I said "rain" in California. Like the third time this whole year. Luckily I bought an umbrella at Target the day before. Nevermind I was going to use it for shade at recess duty. The boys had a blast. I did too!

Okay, this relaxed with days to go. Unbelieveable! I wasn't this calm and ready for my baby EVER during my pregnancy with CJ. Does it have something to do with the 10 books on natural childbirth she has read? Maybe it is that older sister, I-know-what-to-do-at-all-times syndrome. Is it because she has this amazing sister to offer advice and support? BINGO! Just love this picture, and it sums up her whole pregnancy. Honestly Alana, I have never seen you happier.
Can't wait to give out those kisses to my new niece/nephew!

Family Reunion

The most amazing thing about this family is that the three different branches live in three different states. You would never be able to tell this from watching them react and love each other. The cousins were like siblings. They were amazing to photograph, and not only because of those crazy blue eyes! If you check out their slideshow, you can tell they have a lot of fun, no matter where they are.

Sure, I am one of five kids, and sometimes I forget. I forget how great my childhood was, and how much fun every day was with all that chaos and energy. But now, as a mother, I don't know how my mom did it. This family had four, and there were two sets of twins. Both mom and dad were dashing around the whole time we were there, saving the kids from the high tide, crashing waves. It was a great reminder why I SHOULD NEVER complain about my one little adventurous two-year old.

...that were a ton of fun. Can you believe how adorable, a photographer's dream really. Since the day I met this older brother I wanted to shoot his picture. In fact , the mama (a good friend) had to remind me we were taking "baby" photos of her newborn. And that newborn was equally adorable, and has that same sweet red hair. What a beautiful family!

Now I am convinced beyond all other ideas, that the people I am shooting totally outweigh location, any day! This family was sweet, hillarious, and so beautiful, they made my day. We met downtown Monrovia, a pretty cool place, but we could have been anywhere and we would have had fun. Maybe I was just happy to try something other than the beach for a refreshing change.

Can't believe that summer is over, and school begins this week. So much to do to get my classroom ready, but luckily I have a partner. Teaching only 40% of the week, leaves the other 60% to an amazing teacher that I am sooooooo lucky to work with. Seriously, she is great, and she just happens to have twins that are seniors near by. So, I kidnapped them, and made them take pictures with me for their senior session. We had so much fun....well, er I did, and they seeemd to. Thanks girls! I had a blast, and you were such troopers, especially in the tall grass. City gals.

4th of July

The forth of July is so much fun when you can actually shoot off fireworks in your own driveway! Even better when all the houses around you are shooting off illegal fireworks! CJ was lovin' all the cool snakes, sparklers and other small ones, and then a pickalo pete scared the CJ right out of him. He couldn't even get up enough courage to watch from inside the house after that.

Weddings?

Okay, so I never thought I would do weddings. I guess that seemed to big of an event, too much pressure. Last Saturday was a first. Kelly and Artemio let me come and take pictures at their wedding, and I had a blast. At the end of the night, I felt like I had known the couple as best friends. I was lucky enough to be able to take pictures of a good friend of mine and her small family. They are amazing people, and their baby couldn't be sweeter. Seeing baby O so sweet, and immobile made me a bit jealous. From looking at these photos, you would have never guessed that she was spitting up all over both of them. Now that, I don't miss!
